Today I wasn't able to go to my media lesson as I was off sick for the whole day. Therefore I was unable to do work at home as I am now starting my magazine draft and need to use indesign to be able to produce and start it. Today I have done some work at home and focused only on my double page spread article as the deadline for the first draft is due this Thursday the 6th of December. I have managed to do just over 1000 words so aim to finish the last 500 by tomorrow evening so I'm ensured that I wont be falling to far behind with the rest of my class.

In today's lesson I managed to make a start on my promotional methods explaining what traditional and modern promotional methods that I could consider in order to advertise and promote my magazine nationally and internationally. We also got told that our article draft for front cover, contents page, and double page must be completed before the christmas holidays as that's our deadline and must be completed. I want to aim to try and get as many of the planning tasks on within the next two weeks to prevent me from falling behind.

In today's free I achieved my target as I was able to complete my equipment powerpoint presentation and was able to make corrections to my existing mastheads task. Therefore I feel that I was on task today and worked effectively as I completed everything I was aiming to do.

Today I am coming into my media room on my free periods to try and complete my equipment task as my teacher believes it's an easier task and wont take as long in comparison to some of the other tasks that we will have to complete during our course. In today's lesson we were told my Miss Baker on what we all will be focusing for the next term and what the first pieces of work are that need to be completed. These were to do the proposal for our magazine and to focus on the target audience. As we only got a single period of lesson time today we were only able to make notes however by next lesson we will know exactly what to do and will be able to make a start on it straight away without any issues or difficulties.

For my deadline I have now finished completely my representations I now have a new aim which is to finish my institutions and audience deadline. I personally believe that I should be able to complete both as its a manageable target as the institutions powerpoint should only be around 2 slides containing the main publishing houses. Once these two have been completed it will mean that I have achieved and managed to complete my deadline within the time given to me leading me to be able to work on my planning section as soon as we get back from our half term.

Today I came in again during period 3+4 on my frees to try and finish my institutions to ensure that I will have no difficuilites when trying to meet my deadline for the 5th of November. I am just coming up to the end of the first period and have finished my institutions slides therefore now I am going to go through the task sheet seeing if there is anything else I can complete or start on. I will probably make a start on either the representations or audience slides.

In today's lesson I was set my deadline that I must complete before I get back from half term. Therefore I have until the 5th to finish my representations, institutions, existing names etc. However although I have alot of work to still complete my teacher is pleased with the progress that I am making and what work I have produced at home. Hopefully once I have finished my deadline I will be able to start the planning for the production of my Rn'B magazine.

As I was away for the whole weekend I decided that I would put a bit of time aside tonight to try and catch up and try and get on track with all of my coursework. I decided that I would only focus on one piece of work being my codes and conventions for my double page spreads. I want to try and finish it by the end of tonight and then on Wednesday's lesson I will be able to start my representations.

Tonight as I'm staying in and have a busy weekend ahead I have decided to try and get some more of my coursework done mainly concentrating on trying to finish the codes and conventions for both contents page and double page spread. This is because I don't want to be behind with my work as I have enough work to do in other subjects therefore don't want aload of work loaded on my to do in the half term. If i manage to finish the codes and conventions I'm hoping to move onto representations however I'm not certain that I will manage that tonight.

In today's lesson my teacher wasn't in so we had a sub. However even though our media teacher wasn't in I was determined to finished my codes and conventions for my front cover. I was prepared to concentrate fully right until the end of the day and I successfully met my target as I finished my codes and conventions effectively and in the time I was given. Therefore next lesson I am planning to make a start on my codes and conventions for my contents page. I may even start it at home and aim to finish it by the weekend as today was my last media lesson of the week.

In today's lesson I had my first lesson with Mr Fisher and then the second lesson with Miss Baker. In my second lesson I was set a task to start with my codes and conventions powerpoint applying it to a new range of magazines which I hadn't already analysed. All the codes and conventions had to be applied to a new front cover, contents page, and double page spread. The codes and conventions that we had to discuss in our analysis were things such as masthead, sell lines, price, barcode, websites etc. All of this work when complete will be put onto my blog for the examiner to see.

Double Page Spread Analysis
Representations: In all of the three double page spreads analysed above the magazine that I've annotated that I believe I can compare to how I'm planning my magazine to turn out the most would be the magazine that focuses on Beyonce Knowles. This is due to the fact that when I produce my magazine I want the genre to be based on R'n'B. I have choosen R'n'B as I believe that it is the easiest genre to do as I can relate to it in more depth to an opposing genre such as classsical as I enjoy listening to R'n'B myself. This can be linked to the uses and gratifications theory of personal entertainment, as I choose to listen to the specific time of music in my spare time. In the magazine that stars Beyonce Knowles inspires my magazine to follow the key codes and conventions as I believe that this particular magazine is very successful and engages the audiences effectively. Similarly the way Beyonce has been dress and portrayed really emphasises the genre of music that she is trying to convey.

In today's lesson we got the chance to present our annotated front page, contents page and double page spread. It was a good experience and task as it got my whole group thinking on particular ways of wording and the specific terminology that must be used when trying to analyse all of the key conventions of a magazine. We presented in front of the whole class and got constructive feedback which was very helpful as it allowed us to know exactly what we needed to do to improve and what we could add to make it even better and to add further detail. All of the constructive feedback and criticism ensured that we wouldn't make any mistakes in our final deconstruction of the magazines that we choose.

In today's lesson we were put into group's by our teacher. We were divided into group's that she thought we could be productive in. During the double lesson we were given one front cover, one contents page and one double page spread to analyse. Throughout the analysis of the magazine pages there was specific topics we had to cover which included demographics, codes and conventions and the key concepts of magazines. This task was set to benefit us as for some it helped learn the basics of magazine analysis who hadn't studied media before, and for those who had just made it clearer again. Similarly the task helped and prepared us for when we had to come round and analyse our own front covers, contents pages, and double page spreads by ourselves.

Today's lesson consited of group work, and my group included myself, megan, and matt. For the whole double period as a group we anaylsed one front cover, one contents page, and one double page spread. This task was useful as it helped with our anaylsis of our own front covers etc as it meant that we knew straight away what exactly to do and write. Range of Magazine Ideas.
Although these magazine's don't fit the genre of the magazine I will be producing which is going to be based on music in comparison to fashion they give me a range of idea's when producing a successful and effective magazine. It illustrates that you can have many different idea's however as long as you don't make it too complex and keep it to a simple style it will maintain the professional style. Similarly although the genre of the magazine's above are fashion it has given me many idea's of how I could have my cover model on the front page of the magazine, and also what house style I will include.

Today's lesson I managed to set up my scribd account and was able to access my old prezi account so that it was all set up and ready for future references. Also I started on my front cover analysis and was able to complete one magazine front cover which was 'mojo' and then managed to make a start on the second analysis. Similarly I made a start on adding labels to my blogger so that in future references when the examiner comes round to looking at my blog it is easy to navigate to particular pieces of work that he/she may want to be interested in. In today's lesson I managed to finish my preliminary task, evaluate it and upload it to blogger. My preliminary task only took a couple of lessons as I wasn't going to spend and waste a lot of time on producing it and editing it on photoshop to make it look perfect as I want to be able to see how much I have progressed and how well my work has improved after the 2 years of the media A-Level course. I made sure that my front cover and contents page included the basics that a magazine must have when its published, therefore I included a masthead, images, a price, page numbers etc. In my evaluation I just analysed and explained in further detail why I decided to do and include the things I had done.

Haydon News Contents Page
This is my contents page for my magazine 'Haydon News'. Firstly I placed the masthead at the very top of the page so that it strikes the audiences attention. As I aim for the title to be the first sentence to be read I can then interpret that the audience will have a clear understanding what the page consits of before they have to read any further. I stuck to just a plain black title as I wanted to keep to the house style of just blue white and black so that it sticks to a professional standard/look. If I contained several new colours that I didn't include on my front cover it would start to look to complex and tacky.
Furthermore I decided to make the page numbers a different colour and larger font as I personally believe page numbers are a key aspect as it's essential when producing a magazine. My reason for making the page numbers a larger font is because my magazine is aimed at the ages of 11-17 and all reading abilities. Therefore I wanted to be certain that the target audience didn't have to struggle tyring to make out what number is stated etc. Similarly the use of a different colour emphasises where the audience has to navigate to find a particular page.
I choose these particular pictures to be used on my context page as they give the audience a small insight about what may come up further on in the magazine. Therefore they can interpret what the rest of the magazine may include without having to read on. All the pictures were taking in the Haydon car park as the magazine is based on Haydon School hence why I wanted to group everything together.
Lastly I included the website address so that if the audience/reader wanted to find out more or further information they can simply and easily quickly type in the web address to find out the information they needed. It's a simple and easy way to navigate to a web address fast and effectively.
Haydon News Front Cover
This is my front cover I made for my premilimary task. I decided to keep the name of my magazine simple and not complex so that the reader can tell straight away what the genre of my magazine is based on. The masthead is based at the top of the magazine like my contents page so that the reader can clearly tell what the magazine is called and about. I kept the masthead in a simple font so that the target audience have no difficuilties trying to work out what letters what, and that they have no trouble stating that the text is too small.
Just below the masthead I included the price and the issue number as this is a neccessaty and is never not included on any magazine supplied. This is must have information when producing any genre magazine as the audience always want to know the price of the product that they have an interest in. Once again I stuck to simple colours and large enough fonts so the amount of bad feedback is reduced.
All the text included on the front page have been made sure that they have been kept to the house style of the magazine (only using whites, blues and blacks.) Sticking to a house style is vital when making a successful magazine as the target audience will only purchase a product that sticks to a sophisticated and professional look, they will not spend there money on a product that looks tacky and too complicated.
On the front cover of 'Haydon News' I decided to include a main bleed (main image) that took up the majority of the page. The image illustrates a student on school ground.
