Production Log

27th February 2013
In today's lesson I worked on my contents page by adding more texts to make the page look more condensed with less space. I ensured that more text was added to ensure that my contents page looked as professional as possible. Tomorrow I will ask my teacher to sit down with me and go through exactly what I need to go through in order to improve.

Production Log

26th February 2013
Today as I didn't have a media lesson I thought I would work off of my own back and work on my blog as I was unable to work on my magazine as I wasn't fortunate enough to have access to the needed software such as powerpoint and indesign. Therefore due to the lack of resources I was able to do work on my blog meaning that today I was able to work on my sketches ideas and also working on keeping my blog updated with production logs etc. Similarly I changed the layout to my blog very vividly as I thought that there were a few areas that needed a little bit of work on. Tomorrow as I have a lesson in the morning I  am going to aim on finishing my magazine as my deadline is in less than two weeks. Therefore once all my magazine is done and I'm satisfied with the standard of it I can focus on my blog making it to a standard that will achieve top marks by the examiner and help to improve the chance of getting the highest possible grade overall.

Production Log

15th February 2012
Today as we broke up for half term I have ensured that I have all the information and resources that are needed to finalize my blog and all of my uncompleted tasks. Tonight I am aiming to finish off my focus group by adding a summary of what the video is about and the purpose of the class interview and hopefully ensure that my blogger is up to date and try and start my final to-do tasks. After that I am aiming to make a start on my exam side as I have alot of exam prep to do before the 13th of May which is when our two hour exam is taking place.

Focus group

15th February 2013
The video above includes a class discussion which deals with a wide range of magazines with a variety of different questions being discussed on each. As we carried out the focus group as a class it enabled us to get our own primary research when getting detailed information about things that would be effective and successful when producing our magazines and even discussing what doesn't look very professional leading us to get critical but beneficial feedback. The focus group was an effective research method as we were able to ask the group relevant questions that could be linked to our own magazines leading us individually to get feedback.
Furthermore the whole purpose of carrying out the focus group was as it involved being interactive instead of doing independent research on pro's and con's of magazines, therefore leading us to get relevant answers and specific answers to certain questions asked. Many advantages of carrying out the focus group included:

  • Results can be easier to understand than complicated statistical data.
  • We were able to get information from non-verbal responses, such as facial expressions or body language.
  • The process was time consuming as the information that was provided was quicker than if people were interviewed separately.
However the main points that I was able to use to my advantage when I asked my own individual questions consisted of knowing exactly what I should and shouldn't go with my female model putting it all down to mise-en-scene whether not using a particular outfit or colours, certain poses, body language, hair, make-up etc. Similarly as I am aware from my past magazine that I produced for GCSE I ensured that I asked questions related to the front cover as I knew that this was the page I find hardest to make in comparison to the contents or double page spread. Therefore by asking questions about the font I was able to learn and interpret what type of font and colours would be successful in order to attract my target audience effectively. Lastly by asking a suitable and appropriate price range that my target audience would be satisfied paying was a really beneficial question to ask as the participants involved within my focus group consisted of the age ranges that I am planning to aim my magazine at.To conclude I believe that by carrying out the focus group was an effective type of research when going into depth about what I need to do in order to meet my target audience's needs and wants as I got valid, relevant and reliable feedback that was all appropriate to the magazine I am aiming to finally produce.

Production Log

13th February 2013
In today's lesson I spent the first half of the lesson on my exam side work where I put my essays for my distribution for my Hollywood movie onto indesign and then for the second half of the lesson I have been working on getting my blog up to date and improving my magazine coursework. However I concentrated today on my front cover as I am finding that the hardest page out of my magazine to complete as I am trying to make it look as professional as possible and therefore must ensure that the text is laid out appropriately.
